I am so sorry for your loss of such a great lady. I am a better person for getting to spend time with her. Words can not begin to tell you how much she will be missed by so many people.
When I think of Laura, I think of a wonderful teacher, woman, and person that I had the great fortune to be able to get to know through teaching for and with at Newport Elementary as a sub over the past 12 years. She loved to teach and I think all the things I learned from her about being a good teacher and about life will always stay with me. I know that she has touched many lives at Newport Elementary and a little bit of her will live on through each of us.

My heart is broken for the families loss of Laura. What a good friend she was to so many and how she loved Doug and Justin and Mallory. She received so much joy from her grandchildren. There wasn't one time that I talked with her that she didn't ask about my son Andrew. She always cared for and thought of others. May God comfort you all.

My prayers to the Hoff Family. Mrs. Hoff gave so much to all of her students. She was not only my teacher, but also my childrens'. Many of my memories of elementary school had her in them. When the Challenger tragedy happened, we all watched in the old school library. She and the other teachers comforted us through their tears, as we watched, not really understanding what happened. She helped us all understand. I hope I am as helpful to my girls and nephew who she has been teaching this year. She was strict but fair, and being in her room was the first time the challenge of learning was fun, which never changed. My daughter would tell me about what she was doing at school and it was like being there myself again. My heart breaks for your entire family and the loss of your wife, mother and grandmother, she was wonderful!

I had the privilege of having Mrs. Hoff as a teacher for three years while my family lived in Newport. She was truly a blessing and had a positive impact on my life. Even at a young age, I remember her as being kind and compassionate and always putting forth the extra effort to truly recognize the individual needs of her students. Her beautiful smile and her warmth created a learning environment in which I knew that she loved each of us as her students. When I am asked who inspired me to pursue a career in the education profession, I always speak highly of Mrs. Hoff and the outstanding qualities that she demonstrated which allowed her to be the wonderful teacher and a person that I wanted to model myself after. To my surprise, I was blessed to be able to see her again after many years at my school of employment while she was assessing my mentee student teacher. We had the opportunity to catch up and reminisce about the days at Newport Elementary as well as discuss her family which clearly meant so much to her. My sincere condolences are extended to her entire family. My thoughts and prayers are with you in the days to come as you grieve the loss of truly a special woman.
